Children’s beliefs concerning their school performance at the end of the first grade in Finland

This study examines primary-school children’s beliefs about their school performance at the end of first year in Finland and feedback that they have received, furthermore possible gender differences between these beliefs. Children from Grade 1 (N = 544), approximately 7 years old, were interviewed. The data assessed using problem-driven content analyzis inductive reasoning. revealed ten categories regarding success failure. results showed more than one-third children believed succeeding well school. More boys girls mentioned succeeded mathematics, literacy. Based on interviews, teachers rarely gave feedback. Even less was reportedly given by when performing poorly. Therefore, different modes giving way is provided should be carefully considered.
